10 Steps to Activate Your Local Search Marketing Plan

1. Perform an online search for your type of business in your zip code. (for example, “Mexican restaurants 48106” )
   Do this in Google, Yahoo and Bing and make a note of who is shown at the top of your search results. Check out the links to their online information. Notice their information, pictures, coupons, etc. These are your competitors. Plan to position your restaurant in these top spots with an online presence that will convert search visitors into paying guests by making your listing more attractive, helpful, prominent and easy to find.
2. Create a Google Gmail account for your business
3. Register or Claim your business listing in the Google Places
4. Sign up and activate online reputation tracking with Google Alerts
5. Create a promotional coupon to use and promote online; add it to your online registrations
6. Register your business with Yahoo Local
7. Register your business with Bing Local Business
8. Register or Claim your business listing in Yelp and Urban Spoon
9. Take time to talk to your regular happy customers, very nicely ask them if they’d write an online review about their visit.
10. Develop a web page, either a static/blog webpage or at least a Facebook business fan page; add your webpage link to all your online registrations.
